IBM Maximo Asset Management Application Designer Tips Print

IBM Maximo Asset Management V6 Application Designer Tips

by Bob Townsley

Mandatory Fields

Fields can be made mandatory in Database Configuration although this does have its drawbacks. For example, if you make a field mandatory in Database Configuration on the WORORDER object it will then also affect those objects that are views of WORKORDER (CHANGE and RELEASE). It will also affect any cloned application based on Work Order Tracking which is not always what is required.

A better way of making a field mandatory is in Application Designer on the user interface. Therefore if you want a field mandatory in Work Order Tracking then you would change it in Application Designer and this would not affect any other application.

To make a field mandatory in IBM Maximo Asset Management Application Designer you edit the property of the field by changing the Input Mode property to REQUIRED. Unfortunately this may not work as the entry should be in lower case. To resolve this problem export the application xml, save it, edit the xml to change REQUIRED to required, save the edited xml, import the xml and test.

Screen Resolution

The standard recommended screen resolution for IBM MAximo users is 1024 x 768. When using Application Designer change your screen resolution to 1280 x 1024. This will save you having to double scroll in the window. Make sure the screens are finally tested in the same resolution as the user will be using.
