IBM Real-Time Asset Locator PDF Print E-mail

IBM® Real-Time Asset Locator tracks and monitors assets in real-time to provide visibility of resources, improve asset utilization, and optimize asset management processes. The capability in IBM Real-Time Asset Locator provides visibility of resources and enables you to leverage best practices to improve decision-making and optimize asset management processes while reducing operational costs. IBM Real-Time Asset Locator helps organizations track assets and personnel across the enterprise to improve quality, service levels, and operational productivity.

With IBM Real-Time Asset Locator, you can:

  • Optimize preventative maintenance based on in-use status and location;
  • Reduce loss of equipment by monitoring exit zones;
  • Manage equipment inventory levels to help ensure availability in one location while reducing excess in another.

IBM Real-Time Asset Locator integrates WebSphere® Sensor Events and Maximo® Asset Management to provide this kind of enhanced asset life-cycle and maintenance management. IBM Real-Time Asset Locator can aso integrate other asset management solutions based on Maximo Asset Management, such as Tivoli® Asset Management for IT.

The product integration involves:

  • The delegation of asset management functions from WebSphere Sensor Events to Maximo Asset Management. This includes the ability for WebSphere Sensor Events to query Maximo Asset Management for asset information as needed during event processing. It also means that the Classes and Items Manager link under Asset Management in the WebSphere Sensor Events Administrative Console is removed when you have the IBM Maximo Adapter for Real-time Asset Locator installed because you use your Maximo Asset Management for asset management instead;
  • The updating of asset location information in Maximo Asset Management as it is received from the real-time location system (RTLS) providers. This means that WebSphere Sensor Events sends location information to Maximo Asset Management;
  • The mapping of location, area, and zone definitions between WebSphere Sensor Events and Maximo Asset Management.
