IBM Maximo Tips & Tricks
IBM Maximo Asset Management Application Designer Tips Print

IBM Maximo Asset Management V6 Application Designer Tips

by Bob Townsley

Mandatory Fields

Fields can be made mandatory in Database Configuration although this does have its drawbacks. For example, if you make a field mandatory in Database Configuration on the WORORDER object it will then also affect those objects that are views of WORKORDER (CHANGE and RELEASE). It will also affect any cloned application based on Work Order Tracking which is not always what is required.

A better way of making a field mandatory is in Application Designer on the user interface. Therefore if you want a field mandatory in Work Order Tracking then you would change it in Application Designer and this would not affect any other application.

To make a field mandatory in IBM Maximo Asset Management Application Designer you edit the property of the field by changing the Input Mode property to REQUIRED. Unfortunately this may not work as the entry should be in lower case. To resolve this problem export the application xml, save it, edit the xml to change REQUIRED to required, save the edited xml, import the xml and test.

Screen Resolution

The standard recommended screen resolution for IBM MAximo users is 1024 x 768. When using Application Designer change your screen resolution to 1280 x 1024. This will save you having to double scroll in the window. Make sure the screens are finally tested in the same resolution as the user will be using.

Data Mapping to and from the IBM Maximo Adaptor Print

By Steve Chatten

You may often want to map data to/from a non MXES format. This can be achieved by constructing an xslt document to do the translation, and referencing this on the Integration Interface.

Use a mapping tool to generate the xslt document. Some gotcha’s to watch out for:

Upgrade tool IBM Maximo Print

The IBM Upgrade Tool for converting from one version of Maximo Asset Management to another is based on the concept of upgrading an unmodified Maximo.  While IBM tries to consider customisations that are made by their clients, it would not be practical or reasonable to expect it to work perfectly with every implementation of Maximo. The following steps will support a smooth process of upgrading IBM Maximo.

Tips for upgrading IBM Maximo Asset Management

The upgrade will have to be done two or three times before applying it to the live system.  The first time is to identify what additional work needs to be done, the second time to validate that the information gathered in the first upgrade is correct and delivers a working system.  A third upgrade may be needed at this point to refine the process.

Maximo: How to publish Actuate eSpreadsheet Report including parameters Print

How to Publish eSpreadsheet Reports with Parameters

Actuate’s eSpreadsheet is a valuable addition to IBM Maximo Asset Management. It allows you to run reports from within Maximo that open in Excel so that they can be modified to meet multiple reporting needs. The one thing that is lacking in Maximo’s documentation is how to publish eSpreadsheet reports with Parameters.

Specify parameters, export and import to Actuate

When designing and running a report from within eSpreadsheet designer you can specify Parameters and enter them and the report will run with the specified parameters.  However, when you publish the report to IBM Maximo  and configure the report parameters in Report Administration, you will notice that you receive the prompts for the parameters but they actually do not work, instead it uses the Parameter values that you placed in the design of the report.
