The IBM Upgrade Tool for converting from one version of Maximo Asset Management to another is based on the concept of upgrading an unmodified Maximo. While IBM tries to consider customisations that are made by their clients, it would not be practical or reasonable to expect it to work perfectly with every implementation of Maximo. The following steps will support a smooth process of upgrading IBM Maximo.
Tips for upgrading IBM Maximo Asset Management
The upgrade will have to be done two or three times before applying it to the live system. The first time is to identify what additional work needs to be done, the second time to validate that the information gathered in the first upgrade is correct and delivers a working system. A third upgrade may be needed at this point to refine the process. The upgrade involves both changes to the structure of Maximo and also changes to the data that is held in the database. It may be necessary to create SQL scripts additional to those supplied by IBM to both move data in to the correct tables and columns in the new database and also edit existing data that no longer conforms to the business object rules in the new version. Finally, document all scripts and processes created as part of the upgrade to create a checklist of what needs to be applied and also that the scripts get applied in the correct order.
