MACS EU together with one of our clients Interserve PLC has gotten together to help support a great charity Cure Leukaemia. We took part in the annual Dragon Boat racing event held at Brindley Place, Birmingham on Saturday 18th June 2016. Now in its 17th year, the Brindley Place Dragon Boat Race aims to raise a record-breaking £70,000 for this chosen charity.
Leukaemia is a malignant progressive disease in which the bone marrow and other blood-forming organs produce increased numbers of immature or abnormal leucocytes. These suppress the production of normal blood cells, leading to anaemia and other symptoms. The exact cause of leukaemia is unknown, treatment may involve some combination of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, targeted therapy, and bone marrow transplant, in addition to supportive care as needed
Cure Leukaemia was established in 2003 by Professor Charlie Craddock CBE, Cure Leukaemia helps to bring world first drug and transplant treatments to blood cancer patients throughout the Midlands and was chosen by the Brindley Place community as their charity partner for 2015-16.
As MACS EU have had a long standing business relationship with our Midlands based client Interserve it was natural for us to align ourselves in support of cure Leukaemia.
The money raised from this year’s Dragon Boat Race will be a much needed boost for the life-saving work carried out at the Centre for Clinical Haematology, increasing the Centre’s ability to deliver pioneering treatments for blood cancer patients at this international centre of excellence in Birmingham UK.
Prior to the main event we held numerous office baked goods sales and encouraged the support of our family and colleagues to give generously to our online Justgiving page.
Our team joined 200 professionals from 10 companies in a fundraising effort, culminating with the big Dragon boat race witnessed by over 10,000 spectators making it a brilliant family day out.
